OMD Documentary Souvenir Now Available.

A Limited Edition DVD by producer/director Rob Finighan, "Souvenir is the story of one of the most influential synth-pop bands of all time." It is a fan's "tribute to the two songwriters and musicians who supplied the sound track to my youth."

Completed in October 2007 and released in November, Souvenir is a "documentary about Liverpool synth pioneers Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark. With an initial run of only 3000 copies, this is a must buy for anyone who loves early synth music." (synthpop.net)

Finighan "followed duo Paul Humphries and Andy McCluskey around as they prepared for their comeback tour" in 2007, and "pulled together interviews with both that cover both their early days and explore the music in detail from the beginning through to classic album Architecture & Morality." (synthpop.net)

Says Finighan, "Being a hopelessly devoted fan of one of the most gifted yet untrendy bands of all times gave me an insight into what it must be like to be a religious nutter." He says that as a teenaged fan, he "stopped just short of going door to door and handing out pamphlets on the collected writings of the messiah McCluskey."

Finighan says he made "a documentary about my heroes."

Just as Finighan had "the bonnet lifted on the raw mechanics" of the band and it's music during the filming, the above Souvenir preview will allow you, the Waist High reader, the opportunity to have "the bonnet lifted on the raw mechanics" of the song "Electricity," a "naive teenaged tribute to (the band's) favorite experimental German electronic band (Kraftwerk)."
